The first thing you’ll want to think about if you’re ready to book a branding session is deciding your goals for the shoot. Are you looking to create new headshots? A portfolio? Here are some tips for planning an amazing branding photoshoot:
1. Choose a photographer who you feel comfortable with and who understands your vision.
I work with my clients to identify their brand values, brand story, ideal client, and so many other key details. Personal branding sessions are so much more details than just showing up and taking photos. You want to create brand photos that will instantly connect and engage with your ideal clients. That’s why before we even start thinking about the photos, we map out exactly what our goals are for the session. And that’s exactly what we did for this branding session in LA!
It’s also important for me to create a safe space for my clients. Your brand story and your personality is an intimate part of your business. I want each of my clients to feel comfortable enough to bring their whole selves to the session, and I help them feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera.
Especially for therapists, and those that work 1:1 in intimate setting with their clients. Your brand photos should feel very warm, welcoming and personable!
2. Selecting a location that is meaningful to you or that reflects your brand.
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! This one is really important. I help my clients identify the types of surroundings that will best reflect their brand, and will feel the most natural to their work. For example, my signature branding sessions always include one indoor, private office space and a couple of outdoor locations. This helps you get variety within your photos and allows you to showcase yourself and your personality in different atmospheres. For example, for this branding session in LA we chose an outdoor garden as well as a well-lit, modern home for photos.
3. Preparing ahead of time by selecting the outfits and props that you’ll use during the shoot.
During my consultation and pep calls with my clients, I spend a lot of time diving into these details. We want to make sure you get maximum variety in your locations and outfits. I not only help you choose the best outfits, but I also create a plan around what outfits we’ll use for each location! Having this game plan ahead of time helps the shoot feel very easy, smooth and more fun! For this branding session in LA, we wanted to have a variety of both neutral outfits as well as outfits that added a pop of color.
4. Relax and have fun! The more comfortable you are, the better your photos will be.
I love working closely with my clients leading up to their branding session, because it allows them to feel fully present and prepared for the branding shoot. When you can show up confidently and comfortably in front of the camera, you’ll be amazed at how much more you’ll love the photos!
